Munich

In Munich, known in German as Munchen, we stayed at the Pension Frank.  It was spartan and inexpensive with a nice breakfast included.  Pension Frank is near the Universitat subway stop.  The subway is called the "U".  On our first day, we went to Odeonplatz which is just south of Universitat.

On our way from Odeonplatz to Marienplatz, we stopped at some lucky statues.

Marienplatz is the main "square" of Munich.  There is a golden statue of Mary on a pillar, and the town hall.  There is a glockenspiel here that goes off at 11, 12 and 17 o'clock.  On our second day in Munich, we climbed the tower and took pictures.

On the way to karlsplatz, we stopped at Feuenkirche which is pictured above.  This cathedral dominates the city sky line.  It has a beautiful fountain with trees in the front to stop and rest.  We went inside to see the devils footprint.

We also stopped at St. Michael's Church.  The exterior does not seem very impressive, but the inside is beautiful.

Karlsplatz has an awesome fountain, especially if you are hot.

We needed lunch, so we stopped at one of many outdoor cafes in between Marienplatz and Karlsplatz.  Carin ordered Radler which is half beer and half sprite.

After lunch we decided to back track and go to the English Garden.  It is the largest park of any city in the world.  There are beautiful gardens and a flowing river you can swim in.

It started to rain, so we took refuge in the Pagoda shaped beer garden.  We were jet lagged, so we went home to take a nap.

On our second day, we went to the English garden again.  We saw people swimming in the river, and we even saw a few nudies!  We finished our long walk at a different beer garden by a lake.

The next day, we went to Oberstdorf.
