Scotland 2005

Notes:

I read a history book about Scotland.  Man they loved to have wars with the English.

We went to Edinburgh, Stirling, Fort William, The Isle of Mull, The Isle of Iona.

I drove on the left side of the road.  It was a stick shift Ford Focus.  Driving in Edinburgh was actually scarier than the single track roads dodging oncoming traffic.

G8 was meeting in Scotland a few weeks after our trip.  People were planning a demonstration.

One pound is about 1.82 US dollars.

It stayed light outside until about 11:30 and got light again in the morning very early.

Along with sampling beers like Caledonia 80, I tried Haggis, Kippers, and Langoustines which are like small lobsters.  No blood pudding for me though.

Scottish breakfast at B & B's is VERY filling.

Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle - Queen Mary's Chapel?

Edinburgh Castle - Swords!!!!!!

Roslin Chapel - Made famous by The Da Vinci Code.

The Lilly's having a picnic at Roslin Chapel.  Sorry, I don't have any pictures of Samantha.

Double-decker bus.  From here on out I saved the pictures with better quality... ;)

Edinburgh skyline from Prices Street.

Edinburgh Gardens

The Balmoral Hotel.  Sam has a job playing piano here.  Swanky!

Nettle.  Stay away.  It feels like a mild bee sting.

Arthur's Seat.  We hiked up for amazing views of Edinburgh.

Stirling Castle.  The gardens.  Stirilng Castle is the best one to visit in Scotland.  The kitchen is awesome.

A statue of William Wallace at the memorial in Stirling.

Some freakin loch in between Stirling and Ft. William.

Scenery near Glen Coe.  Did I mention we are in the highlands?

Me driving on the opposite side of the road.  Weee!

Jessemon on top of Ben Nevis.  Inlaid: Snow on the top.  It took us 7.5 hours to hike it.  At about 4400 feet, it's the tallest mountain in Britain.

Taking the car ferry to the Isle of Mull.

Suicidal Cows on Mull.  There were actually WAY more crazy sheep than cows.

The Nunnery on the Isle of Iona.

A Celtic style cross right outside the Monestary.  Columba brought Christianity to Scotland here way back in 563ish.  He was a Gaelic dude from Ireland.

Sheep on the beach on Iona.
